Shaggy,
I sure hope you make it big one day. But the main thing is you must like what you do in order to be successful at it. That's more important than money or position sometimes. It might require you to work for others in the same field to learn the business end first and build the capital to be able to branch out on your own. I hope to have my own gourd patch this year. BFN, I'm happy with my little artistic hobby. One of a kind you know.

The majority of people polled say they don't like the job they are in. When inquiring further as to the reasoning they don't like the job they are
in, you will find most people don't like to work for "the man", or the benefits may not be good.

bgpackrat wrote: i love being artistic and creating stuff. im working on getting a job doing that but since ive never had a job doing art no one will hire me to do it. its a catch 22 which i love because everyone that sees my work tells me i need to be an artist yet i cant get hired to paint a curb. im working on getting a really nice portfolio going so i hope i can get a job somewhere but since my resume does not show any art work done in the past 10
yrs for any company i dont even get interviews but im hoping to change that in the next couple weeks

It has always helped me to network my talents into various fields that I never thought of. I think I mentioned before that if you can donate (yes give away) a
good piece of art to a charity (of your choice of course) that will be displayed in a public place such as a bank or a church or public space might help you
get started. I have yet to get started profiting from my work, I just have been giving as gifts and stuff to family, but my plans are the first year is to
enter a few local artist shows and possibly set up in a local shop such as a bird or nature store, and also travel to artist shows this summer to display some
of my works for sale.
In other words: Don't paint yourself into a corner and don't sit around for the paint to dry.... You got skills and you know graphics too I guess. Don't be critical of your work, that's always my downfall, but I'm new at this. |

ya im working on getting my art in some places in town and yes i do agree i need to start networking and getting my name out there.
ive been told im a great people person and networking comes easy its just a matter of me doing it and getting good portfolio to follow up with that networking and thats where im running in to the trouble. my portfolio is lacking and i need to get some work in there that i can truly be proud of like my dot pieces. and im working on that now, if the skating rink stuff comes through and i can get a couple more good pieces i will have something im proud of i will be set. |

Take your time in your work, Take great photos of the finished pieces before selling or donating.
Even Setting up at the Nashville Flea Market might get you in good with an interior designer or such. The portraits are great you're doing. I like you style kid. You've got spunk and that's what it takes.

thats the sad part, i have pieces ive done out there that i dont have any photos of at all that are awesome that i cant get photos of now.
but since ive taken pics every step of the way and im looking now into getting pro pictures done of my finished pieces. and the one thing i learn in college is true art takes time im hoping that i can do some more portraits very soon. |

Sorry Shag. Good luck with your endeavors. I know some artists, and I can attest that it can be a lonely and meager progession.

Dude, that is not what I meant in anyway. Please don't think that was what I meant. If so, it wasn't, and I apologize. I meant that I know some very
talented artists that haven't prospered as much as they should, that's all. I in no way was belittling your abilities. Again, in no way was I
insinuating that.

Shaggy sent me a cople of samples of his work. One was a piece he did of someone's children, which appeared to be in pencil or chalk. It was very, very,
good. I gave my wife a chalk drawing of our daughter for Christmas one year. It was awesome, and her favorite gift I have ever given her. That was 7 years
ago, and it still hangs in our living room. The frame wound up costing more than the art work(It is about 50 inches tall). If you want to give a timeless,
and precious gift, I must strongly suggest that thought, and I'd suggest giving Shaggy a chance. When I decide to do that again, I will definitely want to
look at his work in detail and consider him for such a piece. If the samples he sent me are an indication of his abilities, he is certainly capable.
