Posts: 116 03/26/08 12:59 PM	Tags : None Obviously a very intelligent woman! The named attached to the park will be there for decades. It would be foolish not to reconsider the matter simply because the name Circus Square has been used for a relatively short period of time. By opening the name up for public suggestions and requiring the name to have a Bowling Green/Warren County attachment that is of some significance, it would be great public relations. Whatever the change, it will be better than a meaningless Circus Square.

Seems like it was a Daily News story that stated the name 'Circus Square' has historical significance dating back to the turn of the 20th century. In fact, the only thing it reminds me of is when several years ago several BG/WC residents got ripped off by a bunch of "clowns" by purchasing tickets to a scam circus, myself included. This whole area is full of beautiful parks, one even comes complete with a lovely cave and river. I've been told stories of people "bowling on the green", even though I have never seen this done. Isn't this suppose to be a part of our rich heritage in this city and county? We have a wonderful university with an absolutely beautiful campus...maybe WKU should play a part in the name of this square/park. Outside of the city (with the exception of WKU), especially the western and northern parts of the county, there are beautiful rolling hills...could these hills play a part in the name of this square/park? As a life-long resident of BG/WC, I can think of many things in this area that are of importance to me. I treasure many memories of downtown BG as a child, especially playing around the "square's" water fountain and walking through the park. I treasure memories of fun activities with my family at Beech Bend, especially on the 4th of July when they had old-fashioned games to play. I treasure memories of being a non-traditional student at WKU and feeling so proud of myself for being there. I treasure the love I have for this community, and the knowledge that BG will always be home. BG has changed a lot in the past 50 years...some of the changes good, some not so much. I feel that BG needs to hold on to and embrace its past, but also celebrate its future. I hope the powers-that-be are listening and reading with open hearts and open minds...this new square/park is shaping up and coming along beautifully, as is all the redevelopment... please come up with a better name for it that is more relevant to BG/WC.

Posts: 116 03/26/08 2:35 PM	Disclosure: Nancy is my wife. Did you know that the DRA isn't the official governing body over the development? Some agency that Jim Bullington heads up is. I forgot the name of it. Anyway, we have communicated our feelings to both DRA and Bullington. DRA told me that there IS NO PROVEN link to ANY circus EVER appearing there. I was at the meeting last century when the consultant announced his "conjecture." Only some geezers think they maybe, kinda, sorta, remember some animals there once. From a marketing standpoint, imagine if the park was, oh, let's say, Corvette Center! So four or five times a year, the Corvetter's have a show or whaddevah, at the park. And a tourist is wandering around the area, and see's Corvette Center, maybe didn't know about the museum and plant tour. Every little burg in the U.S. has had a circus - as far as I know, no other burg would have a Corvette Center If Basil Griffin Park was Goose Lake Park would it be the same? Remember, Hartland Municipal Golf Course and Country Club is now Breaking Winds Woods for marketing purposes. I accept Paypal for my "naming services."

Some are so uptight that I don't know how they carry out their activities of daily living. They can't be happy without something about which to complain. Sheesh.

The DRA is the governing body that initiated the Master Plan for Downtown BG which led to the development of Circus Square. I don't like the Corvette theme for Bowling Greens Circus Square. That's not what we need. It's too gimmicky and commercial. A good name with the name PARK or SQUARE is fine, but lets be realistic. A very nice sculpture, water features on the corners or something that would INVITE people to go there for a stroll or something. Maybe another log cabin or a historical marker something along that line, a peaceful place in the middle of busseling downtown BG. With Benches for the homeless people.

When Cheryl Blaine Mendenhall (I forget the order of her name) was sick, her assistant agreed with me that there in FACT, is no documentation. I can't prove a negative. So in true Sound Off fashion, we are at a stand-off - unless you can prove a positive - that there is a connection. http://downtownbg.com/index.html doesn't mention anyone by name, but again, all I can tell you is what I was told by DRA. Bullington, I was told, is the one I should approach about a name change. He replied "will discuss" - that was his total response. No problem with that, man of few words (or bad typist.)

We should demand immediate action and the removal of heads!!! I think a great suggestion, for the name, would be "The Concrete Jungle or Maze." If you haven't seen the place, you should really take a drive by.

A decree to reopen the White Stone Quarry and excavate the building materials out of Warren County Limestone Make history again! or Barren River Heritage Park and Dog trot. Or we could just leave me out of this cause I don't see anything that even resembles a tree at that place. Dogwoods and Tulip Poplars would be a nice touch.

Posts: 5753 03/26/08 9:46 PM	circus square ????? circus brings to mind circular....circular as in round.......square. i think it sucks. circus pavilion is the best i can offer. well i would hope that it offers some form of outdoor protection / over head protection because if the ball team and retail fail there will be alot of folks needing a roof over their heads.
