Church welcomes gun-toting public
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A Louisville pastor is welcoming gun owners into his church's sanctuary Saturday for what he says is a show of support for the right to bear arms.
Ken Pagano is asking visitors to bring their unloaded handguns in a holster at a late afternoon event at New Bethel Church in southwest Louisville.
Pagano says he got the idea after some members at the Pentecostal church expressed concern over the Obama administration's views on gun control. He says the gathering is meant to promote safe gun ownership.
The "Open Carry Celebration" will include a handgun raffle.
It begs the question: What good is an unloaded gun?
Or maybe, we should ask how many church-goers, out of fear, will load their guns in the assumption that their fellow church-goers have already done the same and they don't trust them.
I remember, when the republicans were electing their chairman, they had a forum in which those seeking the position were asked, "How
many guns do you own?" Every answer was completely predictable in that it had to "one up" the last answer in number of guns or, at least, in
boasts about shooting expertise, as if military fire power was the most important qualification of being the chair of the republican party. Considering some of
the republicans who have made the news lately, maybe it is.
